The Ann Conroy Trust is pleased to share that the results of the UK Chiari 1 Study have now been published in a peer-reviewed medical journal.
The study explored quality-of-life outcomes for adults and children with Chiari 1 malformation who were managed without surgery, 12 months after their first neurosurgical consultation. While many previous studies have focused on surgical outcomes, this research helps to address an important gap by examining outcomes for those who did not undergo surgery.
The findings show that, across the study group, quality of life remained stable over the 12-month period. In adults, improvements were also seen in areas including social functioning and bodily pain.
The UK Chiari 1 Study was a large, multicentre collaborative project involving neurosurgical centres across the UK. The Ann Conroy Trust is proud to have supported this research and is grateful to everyone involved in delivering the study and sharing its findings.
